Capsule, train or both?

The Blueline Park runs two rides on the old coastal railway line. The Sky Capsule is an elevated cabin on a track of about 2 km, 7 to 10 m above the shore, between Mipo and Cheongsapo. The ride takes about 30 minutes one way, and the cabin is for your own party. The Beach Train runs for 4.8 km, from Mipo through Cheongsapo to Songjeong, and it is a shared train with no assigned seats. Book the capsule for the view and a cabin of your own. Book the train to cover the distance. Many visitors ride both.

What a capsule ticket covers

A capsule ticket covers one capsule for one ride, not one person. A capsule takes up to four people, and the options are sized for two, three or four. The cabin is the same size whichever you pick, so choose the size that matches your group. Infants under 36 months ride free, but they still need room in the four places. A group of five has to split into two bookings, unless one child is aged 7 or under, in which case five can share a four-person capsule. The park's FAQ says anyone added later pays the difference at the ticket office before boarding. Tickets are one way.

Which direction to book

The capsule runs both ways between Mipo and Cheongsapo, and you can only board at the station you booked. The park's course and information pages describe the two directions in the same way, so choose by where you want to finish. Ending at Cheongsapo puts you beside the fishing harbour, where a red and a white lighthouse stand side by side, with the Daritdol Observatory close by. Ending at Mipo puts you next to Haeundae's towers and the beach. For the light at the end of the day, the direction matters more, and the sunset guide explains which way is which.

How the slot works on the day

Your booking gives you an entry window rather than a fixed departure. You board in order of arrival within that window, so a short wait is normal, and waits of up to 30 minutes can occur. The park adds that weekends, holidays and inspections can delay boarding slightly. Arrive inside your window: late arrivals can be refused without a refund, and the last slot of the day is applied strictly. The voucher holds a link to your mobile ticket, which you show on your phone when boarding. At Mipo, the capsule platform is on the upper floor, above the Beach Train platform.

Booking ahead or buying at the station

Booking ahead is the safer plan for the capsule. The park sells only a few tickets at its station offices, first come first served, and its FAQ warns that capsule slots can be gone before midday. Its own website releases dates about four weeks ahead, one week at a time, so a day that looks full may simply not be open yet. A booking calendar shows which dates and slots are open for your day; if yours has none, try the days either side. The Beach Train is easier. The park sells it at the ticket office when seats remain, though waits for boarding can be longer at weekends and holidays.

Booking here or on the park's own site

The park's own website has an English version with its own booking page. Its FAQ warns that some overseas cards may not be accepted, so a payment that fails there is a known problem. Booking here goes through Klook, which is on the park's published list of official ticket vendors, and you get an English checkout and a voucher. The cancellation terms differ. This booking offers free cancellation until 24 hours before your date, while the park's own site charges fees on a sliding scale as the date nears. Whichever you use, read the terms before you pay.

Getting back after a one-way ride

The capsule only goes one way, so decide your return before you book. The park suggests reserving a Beach Train from your destination station, buying a one-way train ticket at the ticket office, or buying another capsule ticket. The train takes about 10 minutes between Mipo and Cheongsapo, against about 30 minutes in the capsule. If you ride the capsule late in the day, allow for delays: long boarding waits can make you miss the last Beach Train. Check the park's operating-hours pages for the season, and keep a local bus or a taxi as a backup.

If the weather or your plans change

The park says both rides run normally in rain and stop only for events such as heavy rain or a typhoon. Busan is among the most typhoon-prone cities in South Korea, with the risk in late summer and early autumn, so build some slack into those months rather than making the capsule your only plan for the day. The park does not move a booking to a new time. On its own site you cancel and book again, and a voucher bought elsewhere follows that seller's terms. This booking's free cancellation runs until 24 hours before your date.

On board: bags, strollers, pets

Lockers stand at Mipo, Cheongsapo and Songjeong stations, and the park recommends them for suitcases because space on board is tight. Strollers must be folded. Manual wheelchairs can go on the Beach Train and must be folded for the capsule, and the park lends manual wheelchairs at the ticket office. It does not allow electric wheelchairs on either ride. Pets travel only in a carrier that holds the whole animal. Drinking and smoking are banned inside the facilities, children and older passengers must board with a guardian, and staff guide you on and off.

Who this isn't for

If you need to arrive at a fixed minute, this isn't for you, because boarding runs by entry window and delays happen. If you want one capsule for a group of more than four, it isn't possible: five people must split, apart from the child aged 7 or under exception. If you use an electric wheelchair, the park does not allow it on either ride. If you only want to get from Mipo to Cheongsapo quickly, the Beach Train takes about 10 minutes against 30. And if heights worry you, the track runs 7 to 10 m above the shore.
