Quick answer

For a sunset ride, check Busan's sunset time for your date, then book a slot that starts about half an hour to an hour before it, so you are in the capsule around sunset even if boarding runs late. Sunset moves from late afternoon in winter to mid-evening in summer, and the park's hours change with the season, so compare the two before you book. Keep a plan for getting back, because the last Beach Train can be missed after a late ride.

The Sky Capsule follows the old railway line for about 2 km, 7 to 10 m above the shore, between Mipo and Cheongsapo, and the ride takes about 30 minutes. VisitBusan describes roads following the old railroad along the coastal cliffs, with the sea below. At the Mipo end you are beside Haeundae's towers and the eastern end of the beach, as in this photo. At Cheongsapo, a white and a red lighthouse stand side by side in the harbour. Sunset on this ride means evening light along a rocky coast and over the city, so the view depends on the sky and the time you ride.

The Beach Train as a second ride

The Beach Train runs the whole 4.8 km line from Mipo through Cheongsapo to Songjeong, with stops that include the Dalmaji Tunnel, the Haewol Skywalk and the Daritdol Skywalk. The trip between Mipo and Cheongsapo takes about 10 minutes. Seats are not assigned, and you may stand if the train is full. Passengers with reservations board first and should be on the platform 10 minutes before departure. Mipo and Songjeong are the ends of the line, so everyone gets off there, and a round trip needs a two-ride or all-stops pass. At Mipo, the lower floor has the ticket kiosk, a waiting room and toilets, and the capsule platform is upstairs.

Sunset against the park's hours

Busan's sunset moves from late afternoon in winter to mid-evening in summer, and the park moves its operating hours through the year in the four seasons shown in the table. The hours page does not say whether the listed end time is the last entry or the end of the last ride. Look up the sunset time for your date, compare it with the end time for your month, and if they fall within an hour of each other, aim for a slot well before the last one. The park changed its opening times in 2026, so read the current page before you plan.

Choosing the slot

Your booking gives you an entry window rather than a fixed departure. You board in order of arrival, waits of up to 30 minutes can occur, and the park says weekends, holidays and inspections can delay boarding. The ride then takes about 30 minutes. Because of that, a slot that starts about half an hour to an hour before sunset can still have you in the capsule as the sun goes down, even if you board late. Arrive inside your window: late arrivals can be refused without a refund, and the last slot of the day is applied strictly.

If the sunset slot is gone or too early

The Beach Train's operating hours run later than the capsule's in every season, so a train ride can still catch the dusk after the last capsule has gone. You can also split the evening: ride the capsule earlier, then take the train. Plan the way back carefully, though. If you ride the capsule late in the day, long boarding waits can make you miss the last Beach Train, so keep a local bus or a taxi as a backup. The park sells only a few tickets at its stations, so a same-day sunset slot may not be waiting for you.

Getting there and back after dark

Mipo station is about 800 m from Jung-dong Station on Line 2 (exit 7), a walk of 15 minutes or a little more. Buses from Haeundae Station (exit 7) stop at the entrance to Moontan Road, then it is a walk of about 10 minutes. For Cheongsapo, the Busan tourism board suggests Jangsan Station (Line 2, exit 5), then the Haeundae-gu 2 bus, then a short walk. Local buses also stop at the park's Cheongsapo station. Whichever end you finish at, check the last bus before you ride, because routes and times change.

Season and weather

Busan's autumn months, October and November, are generally the most comfortable, with clear skies. Winters are cool, comparatively dry and windy: the mean daily temperature is about 4 °C in January, and snow falls on only about four days a year. Summers are warmer and wetter, with the most rain in July and August and a mean of about 26 °C in August. The park says both rides run normally in rain and may stop for events such as heavy rain or a typhoon, which are most likely in late summer and early autumn. Pack a windproof layer for winter evenings.

Children, groups and mobility

A capsule takes up to four people and the ticket covers the whole capsule. Infants under 36 months ride free, but they still need room in the four places, and children and older passengers must board with a guardian. A group of five has to split, unless one child is aged 7 or under. Strollers must be folded, manual wheelchairs must be folded in the capsule, and the park does not allow electric wheelchairs on either ride. Lockers at Mipo, Cheongsapo and Songjeong stations hold suitcases and bags while you ride.

Before the ride: Cheongsapo

If you ride towards Cheongsapo earlier in the day, or finish there, the harbour is worth time. VisitBusan describes the red and white lighthouses standing side by side, with fishers on the rocks throughout the year and small cafes along the village alleys. Outside the port is the Daritdol Observatory, an elevated platform with transparent floor sections 20 m above the sea. The Beach Train also has a stop at the observatory. Check the opening hours and any weather closures on the day, because sources differ.

Who this isn't for

If you want a guaranteed sunset, no ride can promise it, because cloud or haze can hide the sun. If your evening has no slack, the entry window and possible waits make a tight schedule risky. If you must be back by Beach Train at a fixed time, remember that the last train can be missed after a late capsule. If you cannot cope with a cancelled plan, remember that the rides can stop for heavy rain or a typhoon. And if heights worry you, remember that the capsule runs 7 to 10 m above the shore.

Frequently asked questions

What time should I book for a sunset ride?

Check the sunset time for your date, then book a slot that starts about half an hour to an hour before it. The ride takes about 30 minutes and waits of up to 30 minutes can occur, so arrive inside your entry window.

Does sunset time change through the year?

Yes. Busan's sunset moves from late afternoon in winter to mid-evening in summer, and the park's operating hours change by season too. Compare both for the month you travel.

How long does the Sky Capsule ride take?

About 30 minutes one way. Allow extra time for boarding, because waits of up to 30 minutes can occur and the park notes possible delays at weekends and holidays.

Can I get back by Beach Train after a late capsule?

Often, but not always. The Beach Train's hours run later than the capsule's, yet long boarding waits can make you miss the last train. Keep a bus or taxi as a backup.

Does the Sky Capsule run in rain?

Yes. The park says both rides run normally in rain and may stop for events such as heavy rain or a typhoon. Typhoons are most likely in late summer and early autumn.

Can young children ride the Sky Capsule?

Yes, with a guardian. Infants under 36 months ride free but still need room in the capsule's four places. A family of five has to split, unless one child is aged 7 or under.
